We’re in some difficult times, but having a baby is still a reason to celebrate! If you don’t feel comfortable throwing an in-person baby shower, virtual baby showers are becoming a popular way to shower a mama-to-be with love and gifts for baby.

1. Pick an Online Venue
Zoom and Facebook seem to be the top picks for a virtual baby shower. Zoom is a great way for everyone to be on camera, but it does come with more technical challenges than Facebook would.
I personally think Facebook is the BEST venue for a virtual baby shower.
You can choose to have everyone on camera with Facebook Rooms, but you can also post pictures and games on the Facebook Event feed. Since people are more familiar with Facebook, you’ll run into less technical issues.
2. Send out Invitations
I would recommend sending out physical invitations in the mail, even though it’s a virtual baby shower.
I think a tangible invite makes the event more official and it’s just a nice touch since everything else will be virtual.
Sometimes people tend to forget or dismiss the importance of an event when it’s virtual, so sending out a physical invitation prevents this.
If you do prefer a virtual invite, however, there are a few options:
- You can create an event on Facebook and invite each person to it in the actual event.
- You can send an e-card through evite.
Psst.. shopping online for baby? Sign up for Rakuten to get cash back at almost all online stores. Use this link to have $30 added to your account after your first purchase. Install the toolbar and always know how much cash back you’ll receive at a retailer.
3. Virtual Baby Shower Games
Love them or hate them, baby shower games are usually a must-have, even virtually!
I have a ton of virtual baby shower game ideas floating around in my head, but here are a few ideas to get you started.
Mama-to-be Trivia
Periodically throughout the baby shower, post a trivia question about the mama-to-be. Anyone who gets it right can get a prize, like a $5 to $10 gift card to Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, etc.
Some examples of questions:
- What is Mama craving the most during her pregnancy?
- What food does she miss the most?
- What is Dad’s favorite food?
If you’d like to offer a prize for any games, you can send $5-$10 gift cards for coffee at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts.
The Price is Right
The Price is Right is always a fun baby shower game and it can be done virtually as well.
The baby shower host can go live in the Facebook event and hold up various baby items (or pictures of them). Party guests will then quickly guess the price in the comment section.
Playing this game live will make it fast-paced and fun.
4. How to Handle the Gifts
Send out baby registration information with the invitations and have guests send the gifts right to the mama-to-be.
The goal is to have gifts sent to Mom before the baby shower, so registering with Amazon is her best bet (& she’ll also get a free welcome basket).
Mom can then open up her gifts on camera during the online baby shower.
5. Virtual Baby Shower Food
You can arrange to have a food gift basket delivered to the mama for a special treat for her during the shower.
You can also send ingredients a special mug cake to each party guest to make before the shower, so everyone can enjoy it together.
