How to Create Nursery Storage in a Small Space

Finding a space for all of baby’s things is essential to keep a nesting mama feeling prepared for baby’s arrival. Over the years, I’ve found a bunch of nursery storage ideas for small spaces.

Here are my top tips.

1. Use Drawer Dividers

Maximizing the space you do have in a small nursery is key to finding a place for all of baby’s things.

I’ve found that using drawer dividers in the nursery dresser was the best way to maximize the space in each drawer.

When you divide and group like items together, you get much more use of the space you have.

I recommend using either drawer dividers or even small bins from the dollar store to store items like clothes, diapers, creams, teethers and toys.

These drawer dividers are the same size as the bins in the picture above, if you’re inspired by it!

Using drawer dividers in the nursery dresser also keeps everything organized and easy to find when you’re in a hurry!

2. Find Hidden Storage

There are so many little spots in a room that you can use for storage! If you’re working with a small nursery or even sharing a master bedroom with the baby, finding these little hidden nursery storage hacks is important.

One place that is often overlooked is under the crib. You store a ton under the crib and still keep it organized using tubs or baskets.

You can store items like:

  • Bulk diapers
  • Extra wipes
  • Seasonal clothing
  • Baby blankets
  • Diaper pal bags
  • Stuffed animals
  • Baby books

Come up with a system to sort like items together in a container and simply roll it in and out when needed!

3. Use Baskets

We use decorative baskets for everything in our home – especially the nursery!

You can use decorative baskets right on the nursery floor. You can use them to store baby blankets, plushies, books and more.

Not only can you use them on the floor, they can also be used on shelves in the closet or under the changing table to store clothes, blankets, shoes, etc.

4. Utilize Vertical Space

Using up the vertical space in a nursery is key to storing items if you’re in a small room!

One of my favorite nursery ideas for small spaces is to use a door shelving rack to store all of baby’s belongings.

You can attach it to the back of the nursery closet or the back of the nursery door.

You can also utilize vertical space in a small nursery by adding shelves or wire baskets to wall for extra storage.

My favorite tip is using photo ledges to both store and showcase all of baby’s books!

5. Buy Space Saving Furniture

I love using rolling carts in nurseries and kid rooms, because they offer so much storage!

You can simply roll it into a corner when not in use.

Also consider combining furniture, like a dresser and a changing table to reduce the amount of space needed.

I also love the idea of a storage ottoman to store extra baby stuff.
