There are so many ways you can organize a nursery closet. Even if you’re working with a small nursery closet or even sharing a closet with your baby, you can maximize your storage space by using nursery closet organizers.

Nursery closet organizers can be as simple as shelf dividers or as elaborate as entire closet systems. In this guide, we’ll cover over 15 baby closet organizers from each end of the spectrum.

1. Use Closet Size Dividers

Closet size dividers are probably the most simple nursery closet organizer, but they are extremely effective.

Use closet dividers to sort the hanging baby’s clothes by size. This will allow you to see everything in the baby’s closet in a quick glance, helping you quickly grab what you need.

It’s beneficial to have baby clothes separated by size because you’re able to see the next size you need. You’ll be able to know how many items you have in particular sizes and size up in a moments notice because babies grow quickly!

2. Sort Like Items in Baskets

Baskets in the baby closet are a must-do, in my opinion. You can organize items like baby blankets, diapers, swaddles, burp cloths, and stuffed animals in these baskets and place them on a closet shelf. This will keep everything in the nursery closet organized and streamlined.

3. Hooks for Interior Closet Walls

One of my favorite ways to find storage space in the nursery closet is to use the interior walls of the closet.

You can do a lot with this hidden space, including using hooks and rails to store items like baby headbands, binkies, bibs, and more.

You can also attach wire baskets or floating shelves to this space.

4. Acrylic shelf dividers

Acrylic shelf dividers are great because they can keep items neatly folded on a closet shelf.

These work great for larger items, like baby blankets and sleep sacks. Unlike using baskets, shelf dividers will allow you to see everything you have in the closet at a quick glance.

5. Closet Maid Kit

Many parents opt for closet kits to add to the nursery closet. One of the more popular kits is the Closet Maid kit which includes drawers and shelves. It’s narrow enough to fit in different size closets and really utilizes the vertical space in the closet for storage.

You can also save a bit by buying them separately. You can grab the ClosetMaid Tower Starter Kit and then add ClosetMaid drawers.

6. Add a Cube Shelf

Oftentimes, the closet floor is unused space. This is a shame because it has so much storage potential for a closet space!

Consider adding a storage cube bookcase to your nursery closet floor if space allows. They come in different widths, so you can truly find what you need for any size closet.

You can use the cubbies to hold so many baby items! Use baskets or small bins in some or all of the shelves to group and store baby items.

I used one of these in my daughter’s nursery, and now that she’s older, it works perfectly in the kids’ playroom. We also have a black one in my son’s room, which holds all his books and toys. I love these.

7. Hanging Closet Organizer

A hanging nursery closet organizer is the perfect solution if you’re dealing with a small space.

It takes up very little space on the closet rod and utilizes vertical space. Each section can hold folded clothes or even baskets and bins to sort and store a variety of baby items and clothes.

8. Double Closet Rod

You can install a second closet rod for a second row of space for baby hanging clothes. This is such a great solution for extra space for storage. Baby and kids’ clothes take up little vertical space, so there is room for a second rod.

9. Extra Wire Shelf

Rather than a double rod, you could also attach an extra shelf. I did this with my daughter’s nursery closet, and it was a great space for holding baskets, baby shoes, folded baby blankets, and more.

You can buy a wire shelf for an inexpensive price, and it’s relatively easy to hang with brackets attached to either side of the closet wall.

10. Over the Door Organizer

If you have a closet door that opens out, the best way you can store items is with an over-the-door organizer to it! This is the best nursery storage hack and works so perfectly as a nursery closet organizer.

The door organizer pictured above is from the Container Store.

This particular one is from the container store, but you can also find different options on Amazon. Each organizer comes with several sectioned-off baskets or bins where you can store a variety of baby clothes and small items like baby blankets, burp cloths, swaddled, etc.

11. Slide Out Drawers

If there is a bit of room underneath a nursery shelf, consider adding slide-out drawers underneath them. This is a simple way to create more storage space in the nursery closet.

They are relatively easy to install and will maximize the space in the nursery closet.

12. Elfa Closet System

The Elfa Closet System is probably the most popular nursery closet system. You can select the features you specifically want in your nursery closet like various-size drawers and shelves.

The Elfa Closet System looks really streamlined in a baby closet and offers a ton of storage space.

Another option is to use plastic storage unit bins on the floor of your closet. This is a great budget-friendly option for extra storage, but it’s also great if you want something that is clear or opaque so you can see what you have at a quick glance.

14. Drawer Dividers in Dresser Drawer

If you are using any dresser drawer system in the baby closet, use drawer dividers to help maximize space and organize everything even further. There are many options for drawer dividers, including wire drawer dividers, acrylic drawer divers, adjustable drawer dividers, and fabric dividers.

15. Add a Small Standing Shelf

You can really think outside the box when finding furniture for the nursery closet to maximize space. Consider adding a small shelf or even a rolling nursery cart.
