Balloon Garland & Backdrops
Balloon garland is a major trend we’re still seeing at events, especially for birthday parties! You can grab a balloon garland kit to DIY it yourself easily.
Think colors of blues and greens for a first trip around the sun birthday party. You can place balloon garland around a welcome sign (like this one pictured below), around a dessert table, or use it as a photo backdrop.
I love how this space themed balloon garland borders this adorable custom banner backdrop:
You can also place it behind baby’s high chair in order to use it as a photo backdrop.

Add in accents like rocket ship balloons, hanging stars, and crecsent moons to really bring the theme together.

If you plan on having a first birthday photo shoot to tie in with your theme, definitely use framed pictures of your little one throughout the event. How adorable is this alongside the mason jar centerpiece below?

Food and Cake Inspirations
The dessert table at any function is my favorite thing to decorate! You can have a lot of fun with this and really make it a focal point to the event.
Use framed printable signs to elevate the look and label the food, like the rocket fuel sign below (similar here).
If you’re planning a First Trip Around the Sun First Birthday Party, you’ll want to make sure that the food and cake are out of this world! Here are some ideas to inspire your menu.
Add space themed cookies, like astronauts or stars. Elevate the look of the food table with printable signs and star light garland, like pictured below.

Birthday Cake
Now let’s talk about the best part of planning a birthday party: the cake.
For a First Trip Around the Sun party, you’ll want to go with shades of blue like our galaxy. Add in elements of outer space with decorative stars and moons.
Add a perfect cake topper to the cake to drive the theme home, like the one below.
You can also add rocket ships and planets to the top of your cake, like below:
Consider adding in other types of desserts, like donuts and cookies. You can frost them an icy blue to blend with the theme.
Don’t forget to add decorative elements to the dessert table like balloons, framed signs of your little one’s first year, and any other extras that will elevate its look.
Star and moon rice crispy treats are an easy way to enhance the look of the table and offering a sweet treat for your guests.

First Birthday Party Activities
Make your baby’s first birthday party extra special with these fun and memorable activities.
Photo Booth with Props
Create a cute and colorful backdrop for a DIY photo booth. Use balloons, streamers, and a personalized banner to make it festive. Provide a variety of props such as hats, glasses, and signs for guests to use in their photos. You can even create a hashtag for the party and encourage guests to share their photos on social media.
Time Capsule Activity
Create a time capsule for your baby’s first birthday. Ask guests to bring items that represent the current year, such as newspapers, magazines, or popular toys. Include a letter to your child to be opened on their 18th birthday. Seal the time capsule and store it in a safe place until it’s time to open it.
Baby’s First Art Project
Set up a messy art station for your little one and their friends. Provide non-toxic finger paints, paper, and smocks. Let the babies explore and create their own masterpieces. This is a great way to capture memories and create a special keepsake for your child’s first birthday.
Final Thoughts
Baby’s First Trip Around the Sun is such a whimsical theme, and would be perfect for any little boy or girl to celebrate this big milestone in their life.
